The incentive spirometer (a.k.a Inspiron) is used to give respiratory patients a visual demonstration of how much air they can inhale. Originally designed for inhalation, if the unit is turned upside down, it can also be used for exhalation. A built in gauge is used to adjust resistance. The Inspiron can also be used in conjunction with mouthpiece practice.
