The New York Staff Band of The Salvation Army collaborates with tuba virtuoso Patrick Sheridan for a thrilling recording just released. Mr. Sheridan was Solo Tubist with "The President’s Own" US Marine Band for five years until he began a solo career that has taken him around the world playing his tuba. He contributes five scintillating tracks, including Kevin Norbury's new work "Badinage" featuring themes from Condon's much-loved Celestial Morn, a dizzying display of technique and sound in the Arban classic "Variations on a Tyrolean Song" updated for tuba and brass band by Mark Freeh, a mesmerizing performance of the "Ellerby Tuba Concerto", an exhilarating sprint through Goedicke’s "Concert Etude" and a brilliant dash through the favorite "Grandfather’s Clock"—at euphonium pitch!
The band is also in top form with several electric presentations of their own, highlights of which include Kevin Norbury’s two latest major works for brass band in "Flourish and Dances" and "Truth Aflame", plus Peter Graham’s "Ad Optimum." Band and soloist join together on Sousa’s classic march "The Stars and Stripes Forever" featuring Sheridan flying about on the famous piccolo solo. Be among the first to purchase this awe-inspiring recording!
