What happened to the seasons? It’s playing havoc on all my reeds so maybe it’s time for a change of reed as well as a change of season. I’ll be doing some exploring of different brands. Come check out our wide variety of reeds. Also, NJ All-State and Junior Region solos are arriving.
What’s happening at Dillon’s?
Something Old: Reeds. When I was growing up, there wasn’t much choice. Today there are lots of reed companies and varieties offered (remember when Vandoren reeds only had the purple boxes?) available and it can be mind boggling. We probably have the biggest selection in New Jersey. We even have Eb clarinet and contrabass clarinet reeds!
Something New:
Selmer Reference 54 Firebird Tenor Saxophone. Come in and play the latest in the “Tribute to Bird” limited edition series saxophones. The engraving is awesome and so is the sound! While you’re here, check out the rest of the Selmer saxophones.
Something Borrowed: We sell instruments on consignment. Check out the Used Instruments page – full of vintage and newer instruments. It’s always changing, so check often – we had a used bass clarinet fly out of here in a day! Buy used and save!
Something Cool:
Selmer Reference 54 Kookaburra Alto Saxophone. Only two left! The Kookaburra Reference is the second of five in the "Bird Tribute" series. Released in 2006, the Kookaburra honors Australian saxophonists with the beautifully engraved Kookaburra bird. Only 330 were made for the U.S. We’re selling them at the 2006 price of $3895! These are brand new – not demo or used horns. Grab one before they fly away!
Where I’ve been:
I went to hear Stanley Drucker play the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the New York Philharmonic as his farewell performance. He was absolutely amazing! And 80 years old and still in top form! I hope I’m still able to play when I’m that age. If you missed it, you can find other performances and interviews by searching his name on www.youtube.com . You can also hear the tribute from his fellow Philharmonic colleagues shown at the concert.
What’s on the horizon?
The National Flute Association convention will be here in our backyard this year at the Marriott Marquis Hotel (Times Square) in New York City. Mark your calendars for August 13-19th!
There’s more in the store than what you see on the website. So, if you don’t find what you’re looking for, give me a call or send me an email (elaine@dillonmusic.com ).
See you soon!
