Used Bach New York 6 (IV) Bb tenor trombone in lacquer finish. Features include a .485" bore handslide and 7" yellow brass bell, IV style taper. This bell was made out of 51 gauge material, which is thinner than the standard 45 gauge. Instrument is in fair condition with surface scratching, some lacquer wear, acid bleed on rim of the bell flare, wear on the gooseneck from previously being wrapped, and some metal wear on the handslide grip. There is evidence that this instrument has been previously relacquered. Includes case.
This instrument is part of the Tom "Bones" Malone collection. Bones had played the bell of this very instrument on The Late Show with David Letterman.
Here is what Bones has to say about the NY Bach 6:
"The NY Bach 6 is what I played in the Blues Brothers movie, David Letterman Show, Saturday Night Live and 1,500 recording sessions for records & movies. Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Urbie Green, Bill Watrous, Jack Jenny & Jack Teagarden played the NY Bach.
The metal alloy of these pre war horns is more resonant. 72% copper, 28% zinc was Vincent Bach’s favorite alloy. The commercially available alloy was changed when World War II started because the main purpose of brass became bullet shells."
