Dillon Bass Trombone

It plays amazingly!! There really is only a few draw backs the main one being the rotors while they are very open blowing with little to no back pressure they feel a bit sluggish right out of the box nothing a little monster oil didn't fix the slide feels a bit weird most likely due to it having to adjust to a different climate so that's to be expected. Now for the really not the best parts the tuning slides are a bit deformed most likely because of the shipping (I did the free fed ex shipping) I'll get them repaired at a later date but for now they work I've found that Bach Classic+ really does an amazing job at lubricating the slides making them move as best they can even though they are bent!! But over all all the notes and partials slot properly the instrument doesn't feel very unbalanced and the slide seals perfectly. The mouthpiece on the other hand feels a bit iffy un branded bass trombone mouthpiece the rim feels a bit sharp on the inner part not sharp like it will cut you but more like high notes are discouraged because of the extra pressure on your face. It does however play well. The case is about as good as you should be expecting to get for a sub 1000 dollar bass trombone it is however very sturdy and the single arm strap it comes with feel quite nice with the instrument inside. The case comes with everything you'd be expecting plus the added benefit of a cleaning rod and a pouch to hold you music but to be honest I would replace the case and mouthpiece ASAP while the mouthpiece plays great it feels a good bit smaller than the standard a bach 1 1/2g mouthpiece. My personal recommendation for a case would be the Protec Bass Trombone Gig Bag as it's quite inexpensive and very sturdy providing a good amount of protection not that this instrument really needs it as I've found the metal to actually be quite sturdy. (Oh and the Explorer comes with backpack straps just an added bonus lol) All in all this is a very fine horn to be a young students main most likely through high school or even a college students backup not quite the level of a secondary though. For a good Secondary based off of what I saw from this actually very promising horn I would suggest the step up horn the "Commercial horn) it's got a good price and comes with more features and benefits than this horn not to mention if you were to buy that one you wouldn't have to replace the case or mouthpiece lol. Overall this horn has earned it's 4 stars I expect great things to come from it in the future Just remember though you get what you pay for this is by no means a comparison to any of the more expensive horns like a yamaha custom or a ghetzen it is however perfect for its price range. Absolutely love this horn! I bought this horn since the bass trombone I use from the school broke and I don’t regret buying this works great! Nice valves and quick slide.

Very good trombone, I got one at a pawn shop in Philadelphia for $200 almost brand new and it is a wonderful instrument. I use this bass trombone for everything now.
